2007 Kenwood Jack London Vineyard Sonoma Valley Zinfandel

While not intending on reviewing another Zinfandel so soon, the menu tonight consisted of a Thai style curry with tofu and required a wine capable of standing up to dinner.

In the collection of potential value reds, I located the 2007 Kenwood Jack London Vineyard Sonoma Valley Zinfandel and hoped the 14.1% alcohol and Zin character would stand up to the flavors dinner promised and not ruin the wine (or dinner).

Priced at $16.99 by the local megastore, this was a little pricey for Tuesday, but I feared other options would collapse against the flavors of the food. Besides, the etched label of the wolf and the memories of walking about the ruins of Jack London’s house, in Sonoma, on a cool and foggy winter day, drew me to the bottle.

The wine did not disappoint. With strong flavors of fruit and a big alcohol burn, this wine provided big flavor on tasting with cherry, licorice, and some chocolate. Additionally, the flavors not only withstood the dinner, but also were enhanced by the strong flavors of the food.

Rating: 2$, 3q, 2v
